2017 Shot show: Winchester New SX4 12ga Shotgun

Winchester is putting a lot of effort letting everyone know it has an upgraded version of their SX semi-auto shotgun this year.

At the moment, the SX4 is only offered in 12ga, the SX3 still being produced for other offered gauges.

The SX3 was already a good shotgun - I've shot it a few times and can't say that I found lots to complain about. But, in all honesty, the improvements seen on the SX4 make sense.

Most visible changes are upgrades to ergonomics; enlarged bolt handle, enlarged bolt release button, larger trigger guard opening, and larger (ambidextrous) safety button. In real life, when you are likely going to use gloves while shooting, these are indeed improvements over the SX3.

Here's a picture showing an SX3 (top) and an SX4 (bottom)where these changes are easy to see:

Other improvements include a smaller wrist - again, glove-friendly - and clever set of inserts between the buttstock and buttpad to have a bit of adjustment to length of pull. Here's a picture of the camo ("Waterfowl Hunter")version; the other three being the base model (simply called SX4, with black synthetic stock); the Field (walnut-stocked); and the "Field Compact", with a one-inch shorter length of pull, and three posible barrel lentgh (24 inches, as well as the 26 and 28 which are available for the FIeld too).

I like the looks of the SX4 and I currently have an SX3 for water fowling. Those improvements for the SX4 just make sense!

I had an SX3, a very good gun. I hope Winchester didn't f--- it up.

I am getting a new waterfowl gun this year, was thinking of a SBE2, but this is a nice gun for less than half the price. Apparently the internals are all the same as the SX3 so it should be reliable.

Worse thing is, I always asked them for a 25/35 thinking I'd buy one if they did. Guess one will be following me home

They sure do look good, I wonder how long it will take them to follow suit with follow ups on other models akin to the variant SX3's.
