    The First Alberta Skijor Competition

Originally a Scandinavian sport Skijor is the practice of towing a skier behind a vehicle, dog or dogs, or horse. Equestrian Skijoring is a natural fit here in Alberta with our wealth of skilled riders, horses, and skiers. Racing through a slaloming course and over jumps while holding onto a rope, with only a knot in the end for grip.

In concert with William Evans Canada, and a huge number of other great sponsors, we helped the Alberta Skijor Society to hold the first Alberta Skijor competition, Skijordue 2017, on Saturday the 11th of February.

Here is only a little bit of the fun that was had:

I started Skijoring with my dog this year. Only been out 6 times but it is a blast being hauled behind my 80 lb Great Pyrenees Aussie Cattle Dog mix at 30 km/h on cross country skis in West Bragg Creek.

    Good morning,

I know that we had a great day out at the Calgary Polo Club watching this, and hope that everyone else who made it down did too.

This sport has been going on in Europe for ages, and I hope that we see more of it here in Alberta in the future. Personal Skijoring is a huge amount of fun, and I can only imagine that competitive Skijoring is just as exhilarating at least!

    Thanks
