    How would a 500 sw be any different than a 45/70 in performance ? Just curios other than the larger caliber .

    Couldn't say with certainty, most tests with specifications for 500 S&W ammunition is based on an 8.5" barrel, where as most tests on 45-70 are on 24"

    I’ll try and chrony mine this week and let ya know but my understanding is that the 500 really gains a tonne more velocity in the longer barrel.

    I'll second that. Not much info on the internet about the velocities. A video on Youtube would be great :-) Let us know if the recoil matches your username...

    Have you put it on a scale to see exactly how much it weighs? curious is the mfg weight is correct.
