The acid test is whether the insurance has helped some specific someone(s) be successful in court and saved them a bunch of legal fees.
I bought a cheap insurance policy a few years back and learned (the hard way) 3 things: 1) read ALL the fine print, 2) you generally get what you paid for, 3) don't believe a friggin word the policy seller tells you without checking it out.
