My first (brand new, Chinese) SKS was $75 ( I bought 5) and a crate of non corrosive silver box Norinco 1500 rounds was about 85 bucks. I remember laughing that the ammo was more expensive than the rifles. Circa 1993.

Minimum wage was about $5/hr so keep it in perspective.
