They are coated in a very metal friendly plastic. Obviously you do not want to pull on a 90 Deg angle but if you do get a little off course it is no problem!

I picked one up a few months ago.

I love it! The Felts and the pull through are amazing for my target 10/22

Good point, we should try to take a close up picture of the coating. Obviously if it was not coated it would be just an invitation to damage the crown. And that would be a very bad thing.
