    Interesting PAL mail delievery time

I'm currently out of the country and my PAL is about to expire in Sep.
Just in case I'll not be able make it in time, and I'm ordering 2 rifles, so I decided to renew my PAL early.

I sent out the mail by express from Asia. I kept tracking everyday, every few hours.
I noticed one funny thing............. Here's the exact delievery time I copied from Canada Post.

2017/06/18 12:45 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item has arrived in Canada and was sent for further processing.
2017/06/18 13:10 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item was released by Customs and is now with Canada Post for processing.

2017/06/18 20:10 MISSISSAUGA, ON Item processed.
    2017/06/20 05:28 DIEPPE, NB Item processed <<---
    2017/06/21 06:35 MIRAMICHI, NB Item processed <<---
2017/06/21 06:50 MIRAMICHI, NB Out for delivery What is this

    Found any thing weird?

From Missassauga, ON to DIEPPE, NB. Nearly 1100KM, took 2 days. Well... 1-1/2 days.
From Dieppe, NB to Miramichi, only 110KM and took one day.

Lord... I wish I can personally send it to there. Or anyone has idea how to rush local postman? :D

    First world problems?

It takes a day or two to get a letter from my house to my neighbour's. Centralized sorting.

Consider yourself lucky - most "normal" mail for the Atlantic provinces gets sorted in Halifax. Your application just happened to be treated like a parcel, and handled through Dieppe.

If you were in a rush why not do it online?

But, but, but I checked its status every couple hours.
Surely it should have moved after several hours?
    LOL.

dacron is right, you should have done it online. I took a picture with my cell phone, filled out the renewal form online, attached the picture and it was processed and approved within a week. It took another week for it to get to me. Oh I forgot to mention that I renewed my PAL the day after my birthday which was one year less a day before it expires. My renewed PAL is now good for 6 years less a day.

Yes, I did try to process online.

I was out of country too long and don't have any accessible bank acount.
Therefore, I can't even start from the first stage "Online Security".

In case if there is anyone who out of the country for a while, and may not access to online security thing,
REMEMBER to renew your PAL at LEAST 4 months EARLIER.

    KIDCOM:
I'll try to renew one year EARLIER next time. Indeed... IF CFC allowed me to.... I'd pay double to get 10 yrs renew~

It's called a GCKEY. You DO NOT need a bank account.

You know you can register for a username and password on the RCMP site right? You don't HAVE to have a bank account.

    DAMN................................. I found it NOW...

Too late I have sent out the application.

But Thank to you all anyway, I'll read it more carefully next time.
Although it'll be 5 yrs later. (Well, will do it next time a year earlier)

Not really. From Mississauga to Dieppe it's a direct delivery route by semi or plane. Dieppe sorts your letter and loads it onto a truck that goes out at night and drops off it off at the sorting facility in Miramichi. Then the letter is further sorted for final delivery by a carrier.

The mail system is a modern marvel that we think is mundane and slow despite its efficiency.
