Aluminum box filled with silica gel crystals which turn dark green to indicate the packet needs to be activated again.

Maybe a stupid question, but once it turns to dark green, how does it get rid of the water after?

Not a stupid question at all.
All you do is put the pack in your regular oven and bake it for about 2 hours and its good to go again!!!

This is not even a thing worth considering doing here in central Alberta, it is plenty dry already

Here in Ottawa we have lots of moisture issues, during the summer we can get humidity up to 80%...makes it feel very tropical (at least that makes it sound better than it is ;) )

Could you leave the packet out in the hot sun for a few hours?

I have heard that someone has opened the canister spread out the silica to dry in the sun and then put it back together.
I can't vouch for it since I haven't tried it myself...
