In regards to the Marine finish...are we actually talking a low maintenance, beat it up, no rust finish or is it just cosmetic?

Received my Desparado ,looking good, real nice checkering. Haven't shot it yet ( just itching too!!) Got some neet swag in the box with it. So I am feeling good !
