Who would actually give themselves a poor or failing reference contact? I've always thought it was there to dissuade the completely out-to-lunch people from applying.

I just renewed my PAL using the on-line feature. There was no questions about personal references on the form. Using the pay by credit feature took only seconds. Easy peasy.

I had one of my references called. He got a little upset with them as they called him (from Nova Scotia) at 6am on a Saturday. All is well, have my PAL and RPAL.

None of my references were contacted, but I wonder if it helps if references are also PAL/RPAL holders?

Did my rpal renewal online. Wife wasn't available to sign so I sent it in without her e signiture. CFO sent a registered letter to her as info only. She never bothered to open it just flipped it to me.

When I applied years ago both references were called, and they even interviewed me on the phone.
