Peterborough, eh? Accuracy Plus will have a few spares kicking around.
I like / prefer to ship/send my rifles around in factory boxes. Often my local gun shop will have a few boxes kicking around. I have rolls of brown craft paper to hide the markings on the rifle boxes. Good to go!
Lately I found a couple of pre-owned hard Doskocil gun cases at the LGS (local gun shop) and I bought them for mailing purposes. I got lucky.
Hope this helps!
Cheers,
Barney
Try the local recycling depot for boxes that fluorescent tubes come in, and get shipped out in.
I just did that a few week ago.
While I can't speak for everyone, I would gladly pay a shipper the extra for a hardside case. What's a couple of bucks more to protect your new smokepole?

Cardboard boxes that hardwood flooring comes in also work, or can be made to work quite well. I just used up my last one today; had them stored in the attic and overhead in the garage for a couple of years.......now I'm also on the hunt for suitable boxes.
Second keep old rifle boxes.
I also have on old Mosin box that is the recipient of all parts needing oil. Some times a sit in the box it oil enough. Really tho since your selling one what are you buying.._..Give 1 take 1 ya know.
It's very easy to make a properly sized box using bulk cardboard, a knife, and some packing tape. If that and the other options mentioned here are elusive just get one of these:

Punish only he who has committed the crime
I visit a store that sells golf clubs, and they will usually toss me a box or two for free. Fits like a glove!
