    DA50 .50 BMG 1:8 or 1:15 twist?

The engineers in the USA who make our barrels are suggesting we move from a 1:15 to a 1:8 twist rate for our .50 BMG barrels.

We wanted to get some customer feedback. What do you think?

    for all lengths offered?

basically any bolt 50BMG I have ever come across had a 1:15

Lilja, Kreiger, Pac-nor, Lothar-Walther, Bartlein use 1:15, have seen the X-caliber barrels with a 1:20 twist but that was in a short 18" barrel

    How many grooves?
Has anybody ever come across 1:8 50 BMG?

Why a 1:8? All the BIG NAME, REPUTABLE manufacturers that have been supplying 3,4 5 grove and poly rifling style barrels for the .50BMG have always recommended the 1:15.

Keep the 1:15.. no need to re-invent the wheel unless your supplier can provide info as to why this next to un-heard of twist rate in a .50bmg suddenly is better than the guys who have been building quality barrels and winning all the matches.

1:8 is a HUGE jump from 1:15- why on earth would they suggest that? Unless someone's making 1000+ grain bullets to shoot out of it... :P

1:15 works up to 750gr and beyond, why jump to almost half that?

Yes, we thought it was strange as well. That's why we're asking for feedback.

Full uppers or just barrels...? I missed out on the uppers...

I'd say 1:15 works, so why mess with it?

Sounds like your supplier found a way to save money if they can increase the twist rate.

However, I like the number 15 and the number 8 but I just spun The Decision Paperclip and it landed in the direction I decided meant "8" so I vote for 8.

Gotta spin those big heavy 750gr projectiles! There's a reason that 1:15 is tried and true.
Are you saying I'm a "gun nut"? I prefer the term "Firearms Enthusiast"...
