Looks like even Larry Vickers prefer the 100% Made in Oberndorf MR223A3 over the MR556.

To be fair I think he just wants it for his collection. HK should be giving him and Hackathorn a few rifles considering the work they did for HK in the US and the design help on various Hk products. As much as I am an HK Oberndorf "Made Germany" fan the MR556 is the same thing, don't kid yourself.
The MR 223A3 is very different from MR556 in the US.
MR223A3 is essentially the MR version of the HK416A5.
For example, the barrels are not interchangeable between MR 223A3 and MR556. Old HK416 barrel cannot be put on an A5 upper.
There are also many small differences. Of course, everyone knows MR223A3 is chromelined and MR556 is not.

Greentips, can you Explain the differences between the 416A5 and the MR223A3 other than of course the select fire capability ? Thanks in advance.
I couldn't care what Larry Vickers thinks.

There are some difference in the bolt carrier and barrel extrusion so FA and SA are not interchangeable. The MR barrel is in general 0.15" thicker than the regular 416. There are 416 will skinny barrels, like the G38 version.
I think the current MR223A3 uses the exact same barrel blank as the 416, but the MR appears to have a target crown and the 416 doesn't. The 416 has a different type of crowning. They may also have some subtle differences in chambering but I can't be sure.
