Remember TOOLESS FIELD STRIP. Remember the 958? I'd never buy something that requires a tool to take down.

Considering how ridiculous your ' What are you looking for ' thread went this should be fun to follow.

Short of ' I'm having a beer with Dlask tomorrow, I'll let you know how it goes ' then don't bother.

Times have changed to the point that they can have custom * not * 10/22 high cap mags made that are quality and affordable, then they can dust off the blueprints for that pump they had and get it NR'ed.

Otherwise the patents on the Mini 14 have long expired just like the 10/22. Worked fine in 5.56 and x39, just copy that in the Philippines or China.

I'm committed and do have engineering skills. I really like where Lockhart Tactical is going with their plans too.

OK, lets crowd source this right now.
I'll dig out my notes and post again soon.

For now, I am thinking I do NOT want to simply duplicate to M&M gun.
I want to create something new, of our own.

My temporary working name was (last name) Modular Sporting Rifle, RMSR.
But I am fine with a name change.

I intend for it to be several calibers, and an easy barrel change, hence the Modular title.

    Daver mentions the R&D.
Yet there is nothing truly NEW with this.
It is a gas operated semi, just like many before.

No but you can very easily be walking into patent issues.

And someone has to do the legwork.

Plus you have to ensure that the trigger mechanism can't be easily converted or modified.

You also have to source parts, subcontract manufacturing of barrels etc.

    Ensure quality control throughout

Unless you are a manufacturing shop equipped to do the machining, you need to pay for that too.

Just look at M14.CA and T97.CA.

They only make chassis and accessories, that cost almost as much as the gun it goes on.

Now if they made the complete M14.... how much would it be?

Not sure what you mean; most of thos are being looked at and many are being implemented. Most of our products are based on this type of feedback.

I have a rifle idea that uses lots of AR and AK parts, but cannot be a variant of any. Why AR and AK parts? Tons of them = low cost

This thread is very encouraging. There is significant demand for a sub 1K semi rifle chambered in a surplus caliber that takes detachable magazines.
Now getting such a rifle to market is the challenging part. Kudo's to Westrifle for their WR762, it is a step in the right direction. However even if someone had a design ready to go right now (that was a new design and not a clone of an existing FRT'd rifle) it would still take at least 2 years to get out of FRT purgatory.
I wish all who work on this endeavor all the success in the world, because in the end we all win.

Why AR and AK parts? Tons of them = low cost
This will be the key to keeping costs down. Tap into the existing mass market.

Would gladly pay north of $1000 for a NR Not-AR180B™ in 5.56x45.

This is very interesting. Would be excited to contribute (funds and engineering effort) to such a project.

I'd suggest a stanag magwell. XCR mags are readily available in x39 and are 10 rounds, already better than the m10x.
