Maccabee Defense SLR - Info site

We thought it might be easier to start a thread to tell you what we know than for you to read through the enormous threads of questions and complaints.

    Here is what we know:

    • Maccabee Defense has submitted a prototype rifle to the RCMP for inspection, and they received a non restricted FRT for it.
    • The rifle uses standard AR15 parts other than the receiver assembly. The receiver also accepts STANAG magazines
    • Receiver is contructed from 7075-T6 aluminum, finished with Type III hardcoat anodizing
    • Stripped receiver assembly weighs 1.369 lbs
    • Stripped receivers accept standard AR trigger components, some after market trigger kits fit and function, including Geissele, but we do not recommend Timney.
    • The rifle is not yet in production, and there is no production schedule for it right now, but it is expected to be available early in 2018. The estimated retail price for a rifle is $2499
    • The standard 5.56mm rifle will come with a 18.5" German made, cold hammer forged, match barrel. These barrels will also be available separately for an estimated $445.
    • Maccabee Defense plans on selling the matched upper and lower receiver assemblies separately with an estimated retail price of $999.
    • Upper receivers will also be sold separately with an estimated price of $449

Note that final production details are still not known.

We will add details to this as they become available.

    Latest update:

The front profile of the receiver has been altered to accommodate most hand-guards with top anti rotation tabs.
Upper receiver altered to add a center pin in the front above the gas tube entrance for handgaurds that align through that method.
Brass deflector has been enlarged and repositioned.
Ejection port has been enlarged to ensure function with .458 SOCOM and .50 Beowulf
    Magwell enhanced.

Well it looks like SLR production is in progress but there have been a few delays. Due to this expected delivery has been moved out to mid April.

Latest update: Some minor changes to the final design has necessitated another minor delay. MDI is now estimating large scale production will be delayed until end May. However they will have some prototypes send out for inspection and trial before then. We regret this delay but it certainly looks like the final product will be worth the wait.
As always, those with pre orders are free to cancel and receive a full refund at any time.

Looks like one more unfortunate delay. Our first production run is now expected to be completed mid June.

Well it looks like still another delay. MDI says 2 weeks, but we think to be safe we will say 4. So expected delivery now mid July.
Again we apologize for the inconvenience this causes, and once again remind customers that you can cancel your pre order at any time and receive a full refund on your deposit.

Well looks like more delays. Also it also appears that MDI misled us on production scheduling and we will see a trickle of products rather than our complete order. We are not happy about how things have transpired but at this point there is little we can do. Remember you can have a full refund on your deposit if you ask for it. We appreciate that some people are tired of waiting.

We received a very small shipment of product, and have sent it out to the first pre orders.
We had originally been assured that our complete order would be shipped and every pre order would be filled on the first shipment. Obviously this has not happened. Furthermore MDI refuses to indicate production times or numbers making it impossible for us to estimate when specific pre orders will be filled. We are doing our best to get the product out the door as quickly as possible, and hopefully we can fill all the orders before too long.
If you have questions concerning production times, and numbers, please direct them to MDI.

    Assembly point.
It seems some bolt catches can interfere with the upper receiver rail causing failures to lock back on the last round. See pictures:

Since it is a pain to remove the bolt catch, our recommendation is to notch either the receiver rail, or bolt catch prior to assembly. Only about 1mm of material needs to be removed to ensure reliable bolt catch operation.

MDI has told us that they will relieve the upper receiver rail on follow on production, so this should only affect the first run or two of product. UPDATE: Recent production shows a bevel on the upper rail where it sits over the bolt catch. If you have this bevel, you should not need to alter the bolt catch.

MDI has had some QC issues with their anodizer. As a result they have decided to continue production but offer Cerakote finish rather than anodized until another anodizer can be sourced. Thus we will be receiving some sets that are not anodized. We will contact each buyer to ensure that this is acceptable before shipping. If you are ok waiting until anodized units are available great, you will be bypassed but you will remain at the top of the wait list.
