Just as a side but relevant question: do you round the edges of or lap the fluting after?

The reason I as is I have a Savage Lightweight (my only Cabela's mail order: it was a huge sale price) that has the fluted bolt and when I first got it the bolt was unbelievably sticky due to the sharp edges of the fluting dragging on the action: it had that sticky grinding sound like a very tight and very sharp scissors. After 100 rounds and multiple uses of the action I had to use an ultra fine honing compound on the fluting edges to calm it down as the bolt was harder than the action and grinding the inside of the action making it sloppy.

Just a strange question, I know, but I am curious on how "sharp" your fluting is left.

Is there much weight savings in fluting the bolt?

The way my smith explained it was it cuts very little weight off of it and some claim it'll allow the bolt to cycle better if debris gets in there but at the end of the day it's really just for looks. I've had a tikka bolt done and I'd do it again.
