You need to look at the Finish sporter rifles based on the mosin..
or this sweet mosin..
Just do it!Attachment 140255
What would it cost to have a new front sight drilled and tapped onto an already shortened barrel? Something that would match up to the original rear sight?
I did a Mosin sporter project and it was and still is a very rewarding project! When all was said and done I can often get 1-2 MOA out of surplus ammo and a hair over 1/2 MOA at 200yds with hand loads. See the album below:

Thanks for all the comments.
I have had many mosin's over the years and still do.
Right or Wrong, I wanted a different configuration in my collection of Mosin's.
Did some test fitting today with the Archangle stock, Timmy trigger and scope. Still have to modify the bolt.

The Finns also had one built in 9.3x54R for moose etc or perhaps it was 53R ? Sako ammo.
If I ever built a Mosin it would have to be a rebarrel to something more interesting. Like the aforementioned 9.3x54r or even .45-70. Otherwise I'd leave it stock. Maybe shorten the barrel and install better sights. Just to make a dirt cheap deer and moose blaster.

Finished a half done butcher job I picked up for a song. Sighted it in at 50 from unsupported prone. 4 of 5 rounds under a dime and I pulled shot 3, so 100% shooter error there
