As a former RAF officer who retired and joined the RCAF Air Reserve for three years, this grammar spat reminds me of the RCAF's attitude toward grammar and formatting; 'Who cares if you can fight and win a war, your paragraph spacing and punctuation isn't up to standard.'
I preferred the attitude we had in the UK. To paraphrase the commander of Joint Helicopter Command a few short years ago, 'When it comes to admin, the 80% solution is good enough. There's a bloody war on and you need to remind your troops that operational effect must remain your number one priority.'
So, while grammar does indeed make the difference between 'helping your Uncle Jack off his horse' and 'helping your uncle jack off his horse', we need to get this thread back to the gas operated, semi-auto, 7.62x39 rifle we're all waiting for.
