Thumbs up Bavarian police introduces SFP9 TR as a new service pistol

Munich (ww) Bayern introduces the Heckler & Koch SFP 9 TR as a new service pistol for its police. The Bavarian Minister of the Interior, Joachim Hermann, announced today (12.01.2018) in a press conference.

The Free State plans to procure around 40,000 weapons and accessories by the end of 2019 in order to equip its current 34,000 armored personnel. The contingent includes additional weapons for the future reinforcements of additional police officers (a total of 2,000 new jobs), reserve weapons, training weapons and training sectional models and other accessories. In addition, the police's own weapons workshops are to be retrofitted. Overall, Hermann expects costs of up to 30 million euros.
The SFP9, a firing pin lock pistol with polymer grip in caliber 9 x 19 mm , replaces the hitherto guided HK P7. The grip-tensioning pistol of the same caliber entered Bavarian service in 1979 and was also the standard weapon in Lower Saxony, Saxony, at the GSG 9 and in the bodyguards of the Feldjägertruppe. However, the very precise but training-intensive weapon has not been produced since 2008 and can therefore no longer be supplied in the medium term.

Essential requirement criteria for the new service pistol were, in addition to the higher magazine capacity, the lowest possible weight, simple and safe operation as well as a grip that can be flexibly adapted to the size of each individual police officer.
The SFP9 TR has been undergoing a selection process with other competitors since the spring of 2017. "As with the new service clothing, the opinion of our policewomen and police officers was very important to us when deciding on the new service pistol," says Herrmann. "The service pistol is the 'life insurance' of our civil servants in case of emergency." That's why in the spring of 2017, Herrmann set up a project group of the Bavarian police led by the Oberfränk police chief Alfons Schieder.

Among other things, more than 1,100 colleagues from all fields of application of the Bavarian Police have been testing the relevant models intensively in recent months. The result flowed into the decision for the new service pistol with a weighting of more than 50 percent. In addition, the weapons have been extensively tested by experts and technicians.
In the next few weeks, a tender for an associated holster and other accessories begins. "Again, we are planning intensive tests and a large-scale involvement of our policewomen and police officers," said the minister. Above all, it concerns aspects such as protection against weapon tearing, wearing comfort, high-quality workmanship and numerous other requirements. As soon as the right combination is established in the autumn of 2018, according to Herrmann, the extradition to the new policewomen and police officers will start in training so that they can train with the new weapon from the start. Following this, the entire Bavarian police will be converted to train by train by the end of 2019 and given intensive training in the new weapon.
Since entering the market in early 2015, the SFP9 TR has enjoyed some success in the German authorities. Other German users include Brandenburg, Berlin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony and the Free State of Saxony. The magazines of the SFP9 TR are also identical to those of the HK P30, which is in different versions at the Federal Police, the Federal Customs Administration and the State Police Hesse in the service.

    That woman needs more sleep...
I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do.
