Smile Good Evening from Richmond, B.C.

    Hi Everyone,

It's a pleasure to join this community. I'm not officially in the group yet haha. I will be taking my PAL courses in early February 2018. I have been contemplating about getting my licences for a long time now. I would like to get my hunting licences after my PAL courses. There are a couple guns in my mind once I receive my gun licence. I have made a list below. Please give some advice on the firearms that I have selected...maybe some alternative.

    My list (year one collection):
    1. A .22LR rim fire pistol or revolvor
    2. Russian SKS
    3. S&W MP15 Sport II (cheap alternative to an AR)
    4. Winchester Model 70 Chambered in 30-06 or .308
    5. One of the Mossberg 500 series

    1. Get a S&W M17 or 617 revolver in .22
    2. SKS- standard Canadian rifle. Get lots of ammo. Clean with boiling water.
    3. The M&P is not a cheap alternative to the AR. It IS an AR
    4. Good choice for a hunting rifle. A bit heavy but still nice. Either caliber works in BC.
    5. Good choice for a shotgun. Get the 500 Combo kit with the 2 barrels and pistol grip. Not sure if it’s still an option but nice to have.

That should be plenty expensive for your first year. Dont forget ammo, cleaning kits and supplies, slings , optics and accessories. It’ll add up!

"New Guy Starter Package" has always been:

    1. A .22LR of some sort
    2. an SKS
    3. a cheap AR, usually Norinco
    4. a big-ass hunting-style or surplus rifle in .303, 30-06, 7.62x54 or .308
    5. a 12-gauge shotgun of some sort

So with your list, you're on the right track!! Welcome.

    My personal suggestions:

    1. A Ruger MkIV (new) or Browning Buckmark (used)
    2. A Russian SKS isn't a bad choice, everyone should have one, but you'll also need a Cz858 (preferably Cz, not CSA) at some point
    3. S&W MP15 Sport II (cheap alternative to an AR) is a good choice, as would be the PSA offering from IRG and several other options, all around the same price
    4. Unless you're going to hunt right away, skip this one. If you are going to hunt, as you said you are, then just ignore me and buy whatever you like.
    5. an old Winchester 1300 Defender. Better the current SXPs, and better than the Mossbergs or (ugh) Remington 870

    (6. a 9mm pistol. Try a bunch before you decide on which one to buy. Ignore the internet hype - most of them are OK. Depends on what you like.)

Hi there, glad to have you!
I think you may want to have a look at a 22 rimfire rifle for plinking or targets.
A great example of a Bolt action is a CZ 452 Varmint or American.
My favorite Semi-auto would be a Ruger 10/22. You can dress them up however you like.

Thanks for the suggestions. Maybe I won't collect all of those firearms within a year. But it will be my goal for the next couple years. I don't plan to buy any accessories for the firearms. The only firearms that will have a scope will be my hunting rifle. I would like to stick to the iron sight.
