In further conversations with the Lab the key issue is when you remove the base plate and gut the magazine you are left with a 30 round tube which is prohibited in Canada. The nomenclature on the packaging also is suggestive of supporting a rifle. The RCMP are not trying to take the bang out of the magazine, it's a 30 round tube. How does one argue that?

have you received anything in writing or have you recorded any of these conversations? if so, can you please post publicly?

^^^ Many magazines in this country are limited through the follower and the base plate is riveted into place.
By the RCMP's logic, thousands of people are in possession of prohibited devices then?

are they stamped 'LAR-15 pistol' or 'XCR pistol'?

If that's the case then all these would require is a pop rivet through the bottom plate to be legit.
Then the only question is should they be blocked to 5 or 10...

Sounds like if they limited to a 10 rounds it would be fine. I mean in the US there is no issue with 30rd magazines and you can buy them here pinned to 10...

Here is the quick and dirty on why HEXMAG's have been deemed Prohib.

The mechanism that limits the mags capacity cannot be easily removed. Because HEXMAG uses a riser that can removed it does not meet this requirement. I KNOW THE SPRING IS DESIGNED ONLY FOR 10 ROUNDS (Keep in mind that spring can be easily heated, stretched and cooled to work with 10+ rounds) but the spring is not the device which limits the mag capacity the riser is.

Every other 5/xx or 10/xx mag sold in Canada is either manufactured to look like 30 but only physically hold 5 or 10; or in most cases has been pinned to 5 or 10.

It is not a matter of what the magazine tube can hold or cannot hold it is a matter of how it's capacity is limited so that the alternation is not easily removed.

This is not a case of the RCMP making up the rules it is the RCMP enforcing what is in writing. Had HEXMAG designed the riser to be not easily removable this thread would not exist.

False. I talked to Hexmag at shotshow a few weeks ago. These are just their 10 round rifle mags with a different text box insert in the mold. It's NOT a new mold, it's not a new design. It's just different lettering on the product. This is very common in the molding world.
