I'm in either way, but I voted for the AR mag well. Lower production time and cost sound like two good reasons to me.
Leave the lower alone so we can use AR mags!! Think of the pistol mags!!!
Rock and lock those AK mags, the only true option for 7.62x39!
Offer it as a conversion kit only... no point in buying another lower.....
Bad communist caliber.. NYET!!!! No 7.62x39 for you.

5 round AK mags, no thanks.
Make a full rifle with AR mags, and make it run reliably.
Apparently, for 7.62x39, that means having a single large feed ramp and an oversized gas port.
The split in the middle of a standard AR feed ramp messes with the reliable feeding of the tapered 7.62x39 round.

AR mag well is the most sensible choice, but I'd love the uniqueness of using AK magazines.
Are the lowers calibre marked? That might cause confusion with a conversion.
I do like the idea of swappable uppers, but I think most people would only end up using one and get stuck with the other.
Just an upper change for me works best.

I totally see the desire to have an AK mag in a gun that even slightly resembles an AK... or is even from the same era as the AK. Its a style thing. But the reality is that the STANAG mag is a better option for a gun that looks modern and from a functionality standpoint with the side mag release and straight insertion.
I voted for a X39 rifle but in reality, in doing so, we all voted for an upper as the lower already exists.
Down the road, I can totally see the value in developing another lower for AK mags. But up front, for now... go with the simplest, fastest and most cost effective route (which is what this project has been abotu since day 1).
I'll take 10 rounds any day.
Plus not waiting ages for a re-design would be nice.
G96 smells awesome.
