Pro: more surface contact with air, so runs cooler. Also, lighter since there's less material

Con: uhh, price, I guess

structurally more stable then fluting ,as you are not machining long deep flutes in the barrel.
Offering the same stiffness as a heavy barrel offering almost the same weight loss as a fluted bbl.
