The_Shmoo and I had a great time today at the Easthill Gun Range Demo Day!
We arrived a bit early in the hopes of beating the crowds. Since neither of us had been there before we entered through the back where we found lots of clothing, particularly Under Armour.
Hmmm, where are the guns, we thought only to come upon the magic entranceway to the main store..and wow it is BIG! As we would soon discover, there is an archery range, gun range, several classrooms and viewing area on the second floor etc.
Walking through the store we passed by archery equipment
Vortex
And Bushnell optics
Knives
And taxidermy like this incredible bison
While the non-restricteds are out in the open,
the restricted and black guns are in a separate viewing area. Not the first time I have seen this type of setup.
Since we were a bit early, we decided to look around a bit…starting with long guns, The_Shmoo liked the Sig MCX Virtus
As I have reported in the past, I prefer the MPX
The new Savage MSR 15 Patrol is very reasonably priced and chambered in .223 Wylde.
We ran into a fellow gunnie who used to have a similar Barrett .50bmg
In terms of shotguns, The_Shmoo liked the Mossberg 590A1
While I preferred the Benelli Super Nova Tactical 14”
I also REALLY liked the look and feel of the Mossberg 500 Magpul…ghost ring sights in place of the single front bead would have made it perfect.
It was also my first time seeing a Vinci Tactical in person..very curious how it shoots against the M4 and M2 (both of which I love)
In terms of handguns, big selection of Sigs, including this 1911 Target
Spartan
1911 two-tone in black and stainless
And 10mm hunter…as I mentioned in my SHOT show review, 10mm seems to be making a comeback
I regret that I did not shoot the HK SFP9 at SHOT as it does feel great in the hand
Compared to the Beretta APX
And a somewhat rare PX4 Inox
My favourite Beretta handgun is still the M9A3
They also had a nice selection of revolvers, including the S&W 29
If you prefer something more traditional looking, this one with pearl grips
Even fancier, this Browning Hi-Power Renaissance
Ok now on to shooting! As we anticipated, long lineups…for both the safety primer and to shoot…
As luck would have it, both the MCX and MPX were on the line and we shot our respective favourites.
My third time shooting the MPX..i really gotta get one of these! But I am holding out for the Rattler
Both of us shot the Sig 320 and 320 RO in the past but neither of us had tried the 320 XFive variant before…nice flame for The_Shmoo
And I was pretty pleased with my grouping in the lower left corner.
The_Shmoo also tried the Sig 1911-22
We had both handled the Beretta Storm in the past but never shot one (or at least I don’t remember ever shooting one) so we gave that a whirl as well. A very easy gun to shoot even with the included iron sights though I would probably mount a red-dot.
The-Shmoo also shot the Beretta Neos but I did not get a pic.
All done shooting we headed out to Buffalo Wild Wing for some great wings…as usual I had the Blazing
Ghost sauce and battered mushrooms
as I say every time, this stuff is HOT! You don’t feel it at the first wing but by the third you are suffering…mixed with my recent bout of insomnia, The_Shmoo took what could be the least flattering pic of me ever taken.
All in all a great day.
