Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but I don't have time to go through all 13 pages of this thread. I just wanted to inject a bit of information here - the decision to ban these knives was actually not made by CBSA, it was made in a very stupid decision from the Canadian International Trade Tribunal, the content of which should be available for anyone to read:
http://www.citt.gc.ca/en/node/8176#_Toc500224813
I've heard tell that many, many CBSA officers and other peace officers think this decision is idiotic and ill founded.
I would also add that the real culprit here is the moronic nanny state laws that make any sort of knife illegal at all. The fastest "opening" knife in the world is a fixed blade, and fixed blade knives of the equivalent length of these supposed dastardly "automatic" or "flick" knives are just as easy to conceal. There are already many other means by which law enforcement may seize knives of any kind that are being used for criminal purposes, so specifically naming certain knives (other than maybe ballistic knives, which are really not only knives at all anyway) as prohibited is just stupid and pointless. The ire should really be directed at parliament for enacting these stupid provisions in the first place.
