They already make polymer ammunition. That and solid brass projectiles would be a fine replacement over lead. Although the cost right now is higher for the polymer rounds, its only because they are a niche round with very small production. If they were to become the norm and production was brought up to the level of lead ammunition, the cost would be the same. Polymer goes threw paper just as good as lead. With added benefit of decreasing the lead levels in our blood from indoor ranges and the environmental benefits its seems like a reasonable change.
Since I dont reload & am kinda new to the game, I think I have a good idea, correct me if Im wrong. Is it because non lead would be allot more expensive to reload? Also, I gathered it may cause more damage to rifling & be banned as it damages back stops? I know they dont allow Steel Core at most ranges, is that stuff similar as Old SKS Steel core ammo?
There's still lead in gasoline. It's not "lead free" as one would believe. Cars put more pollution in to the atmosphere than lead bullets ever could.

Mandate and create a law stating that all projectiles must be gold.
It's denser and a "noble" metal that does not readily react with other elements.
Problem solved!
They're well on their way with this agenda in NS, a few sick and/or dying eagles over the last few years due to lead poisoning and suddenly it's because of gut piles after deer season. The wildlife rehab vet here has been running quite the campaign and even has our Federation of anglers and hunters on board with non lead hunting ammo.
Maybe banning lead in hunting ammo will get "people that think you don't need anything other than a 12ga double barrel shotgun" to join the fight.
