FWIW it's hard to get a AR-esque 308 under a real world 8.0 lbs dry if you are built around a standard DPMS G1/AR-10 style reciever. My BCL 102 has some of the lightest components out there and sits right at 8.0 lbs dry, including the lightweight Criterion 18.5" barrel, ultralight 10 oz (including hardware) SLR Helix handguard, SLR 1 oz muzzle brake, SLR 1.5 oz gas block. I could get it to about 7.5 lbs if I went with a MFT Minimalist stock and a titanium BCG. Also note that MFG specs don't always line up with real world weights. The pencil barreled SCAR-17S is supposed to be 8.0 lbs and yet what I've seen on forums puts them closer to 9 lbs. Same with other AR-308 pattern rifles that mysteriously end up oz's heavier than what the spec sheet says.
IMO to get a 308 under 8.0 lbs dry in the real world without expensive parts like Titanium BCG's or 7075-T6 / carbon fiber ultralight handguards you'd have to use:
1) A pencil profile barrel like a Faxon Pencil or Big Gunner
2) Non-free float clamshell plastic handguard
3) Lightweight adjustable stock like a Minimalist (best case) or a cheap/rattley POS like the IMI that comes on the BCL102 (worst case)
A price around $1500.
Reliable.
Accuracy around 1-2 MOA.
Ability to take as many DPMS standard 308 parts as possible. Barrels, bolts, handguards/freefloat tubes.
Xcr-M/SR25 mags.
Decent weight without sacrificing accuracy/reliability.
Rifle length gas system. Most people are going to run this NR and running a rifle length system will give people the most choice for aftermarket NR barrels.
Thanks for putting in the effort in for all of us!
Keep it cheaper than the bcl 102. Maybe try a modern model like the wk-180 as that will sell best. But also offer retro furniture. Thinking something that can accept FAL parts. Or at least make a modern tactical version and offer a retro model with FAL look alike parts. Please whatever the decision, have either sr-25 or m14 mags standard. On a side note as long as im dreaming, how about a WR762 in.308 that takes m14 mags and looks like a dragunov?
No. If some schmuck makes an AICS mag and labels it "for semi-auto rifles", then his lone mag would be limited to 5 rounds. But AICS are "designed and manufactured" for bolt action rifles, not for semi-auto. That's clear, as there is clealy not a single semi-auto available that uses AICS pattern magazines. Actually, most manufacturer sell them as "Rem700 AICS pattern magazine" (due to the remington700 being a very common rifle using AICS magazines) or "bolt-action AICS magazine".
The courts will declare that 10/22 magazines that are not identified as specifically for the charger to be non-prohibited. It's just a matter of time.
interchangeable magazine wells and 6 1/2 lbs dry weight
SR25 mag
pencil profile, DPMS pattern barrel. Most common, and lightweight
DPMS high handguard, most common handguard available
DI gas system for best barrel/handguard compatibility
mil-spec trigger, stock, etc.
