McMillan uses 1:15 and they hold most of the world records for .50 cal accuracy.
    1:8 sounds crazy.

    It’s probably 1-18 twist 1-8 doesn’t make sense.

I can't for the life of me understand why a 1-8" twist would be desirable or even remotely needed. The fastest BMG barrel I was aware of is PAC-NOR's 1-10" 8 groove (special order only) and even they recommend the 1-15" as the best general choice for virtually all uses. I think whoever is recommending this change has spent too much time behind an un-braked BMG and has suffered the effects of a bit too much free recoil

Did you ask the Engineers the reason why they recommend the faster twist? There has to be a reason and it's either a cheaper way to make barrels (increased profits for them) or it shoots better somehow in their opinion.

I'm curious as to their reasoning.

A third possible reason is that they hope to sell more barrels. A 1-8" twist will exhibit deleterious throat erosion before a 1-15" twist will -- although whether that's caused by the twist rate or by the longer and heavier bullets typically shot in faster twist barrels is possibly a point of discussion. Regardless though, I'm really not sure how many guys actually wear out their .50 BMG barrels...

How would 1:8 do for short barrels?
I add nothing to these boards.... infact, I detract from thier quality!!!
    And don't you forget it!!!

Just spit balling here ! But would that be desirable to stabilize light sabo subcaliber rounds ? Or the plastic training( blue ) rounds ?

I agree with this because a 1:8 twist is beyond strange.
