    Terrapin X

We received a demo unit from Vectronix and of course packaging was tops and instructions easy to follow. A CR123 battery was not included due to shipping regs but have confirmed they will be, as per "scope of delivery". A used battery was found and we set the unit up on a Manfrotto tripod at the NSRA Bull Meadow 800m mound. Of course ranging an 800m TR/FClass target was easy going, with measurements of 802m. Will have to talk to smallbore chair, retired engineer Dave Grantham(taught surveying) or Darrell Harvey, both involved with range construction, to determine exact distance, but this has to be "close".

Positive for me was the compactness and light weight and less important was that all that viewed called it olive drab/green as opposed to spec Tac-Grey. Optics are by Leica and at 8X, which I believe is up 2X over original. Another positive is ease of use with simply pressing the only button once to turn on LED readings and then single press and release for each function - range, EHR, inclination and azimuth. This can be yards or meters.

Each unit comes with app for phones which can be connected via Bluetooth to phones and Kestrel with Litz ballistic software.

The unit is now with dealer Open Air Accuracy as they are working with clients this week at Ontario range and as they are familiar with military units we expect knowledgeable feedback.

    Best regards,

    Peter

They had a Vectronix rep at one of the stages of the Snipershide Team Challenge down in Washington a few weeks back and he had a Terrapin X setup that we could demo once we were done shooting the stage. Easily picked up a steel target at 1300 Yards that was hard to get with lots of other commercial LRFs (it was partially obscurred by branches). Seems like an awesome unit. What is the pricing on these in Canada?

We were aiming for $2400 CAD but the dollar is crashing against USD and EURO, so it may have to go for $2500. We'll know exactly closer to August 1st delivery date.

Not too impressed with my Leica 1600 especially after today. Looking forward to the Terrapin X.

    From Open air Air Accuracy:

"I am back for the weekend. It lased out to 175 as good as the taco but it does not float and we have it in the microwave to dry out now We will know by tomorrow if it will work. It also does not like being under the hummer tire."

And we thought they were friends!
