I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people end up doing just that. I have a hard time believing that there isn't already a price worked out, and understand a business wants to profit as much as possible, but losing customers is never profitable.

Interested in a 6.5CM 18.5in stainless barrel but that won't happen anytime soon I'm guessing

I'll be getting a an 18.5" in something, at some point, however I think you'd want at least a 22" for 6.5 CM.

This, I look already for an alternative.

18.5 -19 inch barrel is fine for 6.5.
You won’t notice the 45 to 60 FPS loss.

What kind of velocity can you get with the 6.5 in 18.5" - 19" barrels?
Some folks are considering these rifles for semi auto PRS?

I’m not sure about the 6.5.
But here’s a test I did, few months ago.
Savage 10 TR 308/ magneto chrony.

Sorry but I can’t post pics here.

Anyway, the loss was 93 FPS ,going from 24 down to 19.

There is good data for bolt guns on this at https://rifleshooter.com/category/ba...-and-velocity/

Presumably the velocity loss in a gas gun would be roughly proportional to a that of a bolt gun? In any event, the 142 gr bullet maxed out at 24" and lost about 3.5% of the velocity (2683 to 2590). This amounts to a drop difference at 1000m of 438" vs 477" or an increase of 9%. Not insignificant, but it's not clear if a gas gun will make that worse.

All else equal I would imagine most serious PRS gas gun competitors would emphasize balance and smoother recoiling over a little bit of speed. All I've read on large frame gassers is that they are tricky to tune and troubleshoot. I'm tempted to jump on board the train, but I would bet a full JP (+2) barrel, BCG and buffer system will outperform just about any cobbled together solutions out there.

Then again, I jumped on the Dasher train this year and am enjoying the hell out of it, so I need another project like I need a hole in my head...

24 is pretty ideal. I remember somewhere that it's around 25 fps loss per inch

jadam - found the same tables you did. Going from 24" to 19" costs about 100fps.
