    Mine arrived, looks pretty good, a lot of ugly rusty grease all over it , once its cleaned it should be great

    Yes it's a grip safety, part of the beavertail, it pivots to safe when you grip the pistol.
    The Springfield XD pistols also have a grip safety but most modern guns don't.
    Our Government trusts rivets more then law abiding gun owners.

    How did it clean up? Did it arrive in a box or a plastic case if you don't mind me asking. It's my first semi-auto pistol and I'm pretty excited about it. I have really big mitts and hope the grip will work for me.

    cardboard box , cleaned up ok, nicely made, small grip for big hands, you will probably like the commander better with the longer grip
