    Any suggestion?
Had same issue. Bought some barrelnut shims to get the timing right. Currently waitin for them to ship.

More torque is not the answer.

I got it timed, but it went over 60, around 65.
Should I removed and add shims?
I installed and removed it 7 times and wouldn't time.
What is the problem of leaving it overtorqued?

Ok, so I decided to check out the Midwest Industries website for information since the 30-60 torque specz come from their handguard and this is what I've found (torque up to 80ft-lb):

Q: I can’t get my barrel nut to align. Any advice?
A: First we want to make sure you are using the correct fixtures to support your upper in a vise so you don’t damage the upper. Are you using a clamshell fixture or other quality way to hold the upper receiver without damaging it? If so we removing the barrel nut and cleaning/degreasing the barrel nut threads. Wipe some new grease on the threads and the front of the barrel extension collar where the barrel nut pulls. Install the barrel nut by hand and tighten/loosen it 3-5 times with the barrel nut wrench.
Then loosen the barrel nut, set the torque wrench to 30 ft/lbs, and torque the barrel nut.
If it doesn’t line up loosen it, set the wrench to 40 ft/lbs and torque the barrel nut.
If it doesn’t line up loosen it, set the wrench to 50 ft/lbs and torque the barrel nut.
If it doesn’t line up loosen it, set the wrench to 60 ft/lbs and torque the barrel nut.
If it doesn’t line up loosen it, set the wrench to 70 ft/lbs and torque the barrel nut.
If it doesn’t line up loosen it, set the wrench to 80 ft/lbs and torque the barrel nut.

Hey guys, I have to chim in here. I recieved my Stag 10 complete rifle. The first thing I did was dissasemble for cleaning and then removed the handguard. The barrel nut on my rifle was backed off just under a quarter turn from hand tight to line up the gas tube. The gas block screws were loose as well but the handguard screws were nice and tight. I called customer support and they are going to send me a shim kit. While I wait for the shim kit, I s there anything else I should be looking at, before I tighten the barrel nut up? I am very worried about this one. I would typically clean and shoot a rifle before checking torque on any of the bolts.

Yes any AR assembly tool kit should include shims so when the need arises they are available. The shims are not always required but good insurance and cheap.
