    As someone who's managed retail and dealt with angry customers coming in hot and insulting me or my staff, I'd say your response was more than adequate or polite.

    I've told people that if they we're going to insult my staff that they could leave with nothing. Not the best choice of plans, I admit, but don't be a dick to retail workers. It makes me so angry, they're often young kids trying their best and everyone makes a mistake.

    Customer relations go two ways, and if someone isn't being civil they've already lost.

    I don't know exactly what happened. But I try and see both sides of things, I've been on both sides of things. If "gunner84" acted half the way that wanstalls suggests he did (infact I'd expect worse, this may be toned down from my experience) I'd tell him to not shop with my store again. Good on you wanstalls manager for mainting you cool.
