Do you require a safe/vault when buying a restricted fire arm?

    Hello Folks,

I am looking to buy my first Restricted AR and was wondering do I need to have a safe/vault.

I know I can put a trigger lock and have it in a locked case, but is that technically considered safe/secure?

When looking on the RCMP site it says "Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely."

    Thanks in advance.

Here is the actual Law rather than what the RCMP interpret it to be:

    http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/r...age-1.html#h-4

If 6(a), 6(b)(i) and 6(c)(i) are in place then you are good under the law.

    Read it all
    Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into;
    or trigger locks
Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.
For automatic firearms, also remove the bolts or bolt carriers (if removable) and lock them in a separate room that is difficult to break into.
cabinets and gun cases are fine
however i suggest at least a dedicated cabinet
Disarming the victims is not gun control

In the case of an AR, only the lower receiver needs to be secured/locked according to the law. The upper is just another item in your household

Could be useful if you have limited space, or a smaller lockable container. You can also clean/fiddle/build your upper freely

No you don't require a safe. However it does need to be in a locking container, and if that locking container is not a safe, vault, or room designed to safely store restricted firearms, you'll need to attach a trigger or cable lock to the firearm as well.
I survived the gun control scare of 2013 and all I got was this t-shirt.......
    And 30 PMags, 5000 rounds of .223, 3000 rounds of 9mm, 5 BCG's, 5 stripped lowers, and a really pissed off wife.
