    .......
We are annoyed by the assumption on the part of certain public figures that the citizen should be able to prove the need for the citizen to acquire a means of protecting himself. The citizens personal needs are certainly no business of the state. Liberty, when it's in place, grants the right of the citizen to do what he chooses, as long as he does not stamp on the rights of others.

Of course you can. You may also use your bathroom, eat and sleep as you wish too. For now Comrad...

It speaks volumes that about the successful social engineering by government when someone needs to ask a question like that.
I agree of course..But new probably younger shooter with no family member to show him the way..

I have a rule which you might want to adopt: Live ammo never enters my firearms while at home. Not for just a second. Not just to check something. Never.
I have snap caps for practicing.

^^^Very sound advice, and best not to play with it with the drapes open, you dont want nosey neighbors calling the police on you.

The criminal code also has a rule about that, unless there are no rules about discharging firearms at your location.

    Edit:

    htt ps://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/Regulations/SOR-98-209/FullText.html
    Handling of Firearms

15 An individual may load a firearm or handle a loaded firearm only in a place where the firearm may be discharged in accordance with all applicable Acts of Parliament and of the legislature of a province, regulations made under such Acts, and municipal by-laws.

Anyway...my question is about handling my firearm at home.

-am I permitted to handle it unloaded at home? Cleaning...at the least...carry in house unloaded?
-does it need a trigger guard if I do?

    Thanks
Pardon my bluntness but were you not listening during the firearms courses you had to take to get your licence?
I am sure many on here would like to know who was your firearms instructor?

I think nobody really cares who the instructor is. Cleaning, dry firing , handling at home is not part of the course.

    ^^^^^this is correct.

Gents...I'm just trying to do the right thing.

as far as ammo goes, I didn't even bring any home yet. I will purchase some snap caps.
I do my range safety course on the 20th of December.

    It does say newbie.

    Cheers all for responses.
