New handgun owner...question about handling at home

    Hello all.

Yesterday the CFO gave me the nod to bring home my first handgun. I opted for a sig 1911-22 to help me get started, and on target, before purchasing a 9mm...I'm leaning towards the x5.

Anyway...my question is about handling my firearm at home.

-am I permitted to handle it unloaded at home? Cleaning...at the least...carry in house unloaded?
-does it need a trigger guard if I do?

    Thanks

Yes you can. You can clean it, handle it etc.

I purchased snap caps (dummy rounds) to practice PROVE, loading unloading, etc without using live ammo.

You can do anything you want as long as it’s not loaded with live ammo. Just draw your drapes!

If you want to practice dry fire a rimfire, I would either get snap caps ( I’m not even sure if .22 snap caps exist)or insert a fired casing first.

I hear some people use drywall anchors as snap caps.

Good to know. I don’t dry fire my .22s so never looked into it.

I will qualify by saying never ever point it anyone. Even if it it " unloaded ".

The storage regs apply when the firearm is in storage, handling is not storage. Discretion, as always, is advised.

    Seriously?
Of course you can. You may also use your bathroom, eat and sleep as you wish too. For now Comrad...

It speaks volumes about the successful social engineering by government when someone needs to ask a question like that.

We are annoyed by the assumption on the part of certain public figures that the citizen should be able to prove the need for the citizen to acquire a means of protecting himself. The citizens personal needs are certainly no business of the state. Liberty, when it's in place, grants the right of the citizen to do what he chooses, as long as he does not stamp on the rights of others.
