No. they used to, but Anschutz flooded more cash in PR, Sponsorship, and Ads... Walther did not market their guns as well. IIRC 1989 was the last year for their Silhouette rifle.

but if you do find a Vintage Walther Silhouette rifle, jump on it.

It was a sad day. We lost Walther and Feinwerkenbau to the Juggernaught of Anschutz in 1989. That being said, Walther (and FWB)then focused their technology on 3P shooting and air rifles, and target pistols.

Quite a few folks were upset when they threw in the towel on those rifles, but Biathlon drove a lot of sport and R&D in the rimfire world at that time, and Walther had not enough exposure on that world stage. FWB was barely there at all. And Anschutz was spending money like water in the 80's in biathlon to make sure that their rifles got into anyones hands that had olympic aspirations. OK, maybe I am exaggerating a little and showing some bias, but that was the general conclusion at the time for everyone.

The rest is pretty much history.

For a given era of rifle, say 1967-1986 Walther had the better overall box stock gun compared to Anschutz. But Anschutz had a buttload more options in terms of sights, triggers, accessories, slings, stops, irises, you name it, and you could order your rifle from Anschutz any way you wanted it.

Walther never offered that level of customization. This also contributed to their demise in my opinion. Walther made the better gun as a whole. With Anschutz, you could buy a good gun, and with a few dollars more, make the trigger darn near as good etc etc.

i am fond of my Walthers, and would LOVE to see them step foot in the consumer market again. But they probably will never do that... the accountants rule now.
