Decided to turn my Colt SA20 sort-of-C7A1-clone into a Sporter. Lower went together very easily, now I just have to work on the upper. I've built a ton of AR lowers over the years, but have never stripped or built an upper, so this should be an adventure!!

The goal is for it to look pretty much exactly like this when it's done

Couple hints: Go slow, if it seems like you have to force anything, stop and think how to do it differently. Easier to punch the pin out of the gas tube in the front sight block and then push the gas tube into the upper and around the block. avoiding the need to knock out or mangle the tapered pins as so often happens. It's staying on the barrel anyway. Then with the gas tube out of the way you can loosen the barrel nut. A modified BEV block, or my preference, a reaction rod is your best friend for this.

For brahs with the brownells BCG. Has anyone seen the staking of the gas key nuts? Doesnt seem that significant. My FN nuts are staked deep, they aint going no where lol. In comparison these stakes look shallow and wont do much.

Don’t get to hung up about staked gas keys bolts because the BCG will work fine even if they are not staked at all.

Thanks for the advice. I have the reaction rod, so tomorrow will be barrel-swap day, if I have time. I'm definitely planning to leave the front sight block in place in the barrel - removing it looks like it might be a bad idea, and is thankfully unnecessary

EDITED - %$#^& gas tube!! WTF!
