    Welcome:

Are you a criminologist? It would extremely interesting for you to comment on your views to the future gun banning in Canada.

If you are a criminologist, may I ask what part of criminology you specialize in?

    Best Wishes to you.

Yes! I'm currently completing my PhD in the discipline! I'm by no means a specialist in that area (although I've done some research re crime prevention), but I honestly can't see how a gun ban will address the supposed 'influx' of gun crime in Canada. There's a lot of controversy and disagreement over this, even among academics, but (by most accounts) violent crime has been decreasing over the years. People who see it otherwise are looking at spikes rather than overall trends. Politicians would do better to address the root of the problem (which is systemic) or even targeted programming (e.g. gang exit strategies, youth diversion programs, mental health supports, etc.). Unfortunately politicians always look for a 'quick fix' that doesn't actually fix anything, but just appeases the masses :/

Those are my initial two cents, but definitely a huge controversy and there's lots of bickering, even among Criminologists.
