No Stickers !!!!

Ronsonol is one of the best sticker solvents. Suitable for books because it evaporates fully.
For large area sticker on a gun safe I used waterless hand cleaner. Ir doesn't run off vertical surfaces.
Another cheap one is Miracle Whip mayo.

WD40 or any liquid grease, really... I sometimes use olive or canola oil, lol!

Not sure how it stacks up with the other chemicals suggested, but for the last 30+ years, I've been using Ronson Lighter fluid to get the crap off, that's left behind by stickers. You can even use it on painted surfaces - unlike acetone.

Problem is, then I would smell like my Grandpa.

Try a Heat gun to warm the glue and peal off the sticker. Goo- gone to remove any residue.

WD-40...... oil based... use a hair dryer 1st to soften the sticker, then WD-40, to remove the residue.

Takes about 5 minutes of your time, and maybe 1 minute of actual work.
WD40 as mentioned, soak, peel, wipe.

New barrel set for an over / under Sabbatti, came with a big item number sticker - huge pain in the azz to get it all off . Seems wrong when you worried about taking off the bluing just to remove the crap left over from a sticker
Ps barrels are great & gun closes like a bank vault

Use WD 40. It will take it off without any damage.
