Same question how to tell the difference?
^ very good questions, add me to that list wanting to know please.
Should I upgrade my extractor on my gen ll even though I haven't had any ejection issues?
I have the same question. What I did do is pull out the extractor and gave it a good inspection.
Apparently, the issue with the problem extractors is in the heat treatment which would cause the metal to be too soft and as such deform.
I found no deformity in my extractor and all the lines and edges look crisp and sharp after 700 rounds.
I will upgrade as soon as it shows any wear and/or I have any ejection issues.

Any word on how to identify the differences between previous and the newest (gen3?) version?
so how do we tell the difference from gen 1 and 2?
All shipments that came from us are the latest version. There is no way to tell any difference visually.
If your previous generation BCL is experiencing FTE, you can reach out to them via their website for a tune-up kit covered under warranty.

Got mine a few months ago and after putting in the tune up kit and making sure it’s well lubricated it runs perfectly. I love this rifle. I just ordered a Remington 700 .308 w/16 1/2 inch barrel to give me best of both worlds.
