How to inherit a shotgun that’s never been registered?

Hypothetically speaking, let’s say someone in your family had an old 12g shotgun (from the mid 60’s) that been sitting in storage, tucked away since the late 70’s... and it just recently surfaced.... and the owner that never registered shotgun back in the day (as it wasn’t required back then) wants to pass it along to a family member... how would that be done? Legally?

The current owner just needs to have no reason to believe the recipient does not possess a valid PAL, and can simply hand it to the recipient. Done. Legally. After the PAL thing is dealt with, it is same situation as if it was a fishing rod or a chain saw.

Shhhh, don't tell anyone.

What you have here is a Ghost Gun :rey2

No long gun registry = no issues.

Give the gun to a licensed owner and pop open a beer. Life is good. Unless you live in Quebec, in which case the new owner should register the gun... that’s if he doesn’t give it to Mike from Canmore first

Have a read through the pertinent sections of the Criminal Code and Firearms Act.

Then make a decision based on your interpretation.

All that to say.... up to you... but I would pay special attention to "finding"
