Re: Guns ‘designed to hunt people’ in Feds’ sights
The statement “guns designed to hunt people” is an inflammatory and inaccurate, click bait style headline designed by the Liberal Party to scare the public, and distract voters from their scandals. This statement serves no purpose other than to misinform the public and it should be corrected. There has been NO example of a legally-owned AR-15 firearm being used in any such incident in Canada that I am aware of. There are currently over 2 million licensed, law abiding, highly vetted Canadians who participate in target sports. Mr. Blair by saying the millions of semi-automatic firearms, legally in the hands Canadian firearms owners, are “designed to hunt people” vilifies all of us who lawfully participate in target sports. Modern semi-auto firearms such as rifles, shotguns, and handguns, are used in great numbers for sporting purposes by Indigenous people, women, members of LGBTQ2S communities, disabled people, veterans, university athletic programs, farmers, rural homeowners, Fish and Game associations, skeet clubs, urban indoor gun ranges, and even by our Team Canada athletes in the Olympics. Restricted firearms are highly regulated, are only allowed to be used by civilians for target shooting on Government approved licensed gun ranges. Canada is an example of a country where firearms are widely used, yet there is very little crime among law abiding ‘licensed’ owners. Firearms owners are held to a higher standard than the rest of the public, to purchase a gun they must complete mandatory firearm safety courses, apply for and renew their licence every five years, and undergo electronic background checks by police every day, where even a minor infraction can result in confiscation of your firearms. The Liberals are desperate to stay in power, and hope to divide the country by attacking law abiding Canadian sport shooters. Sport is something that unites us as a country, and we should say no to Fear mongering by standing up for Canadian athletes and voting out any politician in October, that agrees with the Liberal plan to ban sporting equipment.
