Heckler & Koch won pistol contract for Japanese Ground Self Defense Force:

    https://translate.google.ca/translat...F12%2F06b.html

Regarding the Ground Self Defense Force new rifles and new pistols that are included in the Rough Year 2 budget request, we have evaluated the performance etc. after obtaining three types of reference rifles as reference products. "HOWA 5.56" (Toyo Kogyo) was selected as the new rifle, and "SFP9" (HECKLER & KOCH) was selected as the new pistol.

(Reference 2) Three varieties acquired as reference items for the new handgun
① SFP9 (made by Germany HECKLER & KOCH), ② APX (made by Italy BERETTA),
③Glock17 (Made in Austria and GLOCK)

HK all the way!!! Good for them, they need the financial boost. Excellent pistol too. Love my long slide version.

Good (great) pistol, sure, but dam that mag release is not something I’d wanna have to deal with in a stress situation. I use my index finger to engage it, all while being used to the ‘typical’ release found on most all ‘service’ type pistols I’ve used for the last ~15 years. In the context of this guns use with the Japanese, that alone (IMO) is more than enough to go with Glock (as it seems they entertained) and be more than done with it. But for whatever us end users here choose to plink away at, its about as ergonomic and comfortable as it gets (WAY more than Glock) and you’re guaranteed to not be disappointed.
Ps make sure you get a mag loader... these mags will really hurt your thumbs

Do this have the same trigger as VP9?
On the HK site it states that it’s available with two trigger options.

It's equipped with the SF (Special Forces) trigger. Hence the name SFP9-SF.

So let me get this straight. The sfp9 has the sf trigger and the vp9 does not?

We don't have access to a VP9 so we cannot comment on any difference or similarities of its trigger to the SFP9.
