The only reason I always start with PLA is cost and colours. If the prototype cheap Chinese PLA passes the torture/heat test tomorrow I've got ColorFabb PLA/PHA in matte black for my permanent one.
If PLA doesn't cut it I normally jump to ABS. I'm not a huge fan of PETG. I don't mind printing in an enclosure. But over the last month I've been experimenting with ASA to replace ABS as my go to engineering-grade plastic and I really love it... Unfortunately the only colour of ASA I currently have around is grey ApolloX I was using for a prototype at work. So we will see how hot this gun gets.
Lemme dump a few hundred rounds through it tomorrow and see how hot it gets up there. My problem is ABS/ASA always comes out super shiny. I'd like to match the colour of the gun with a matte black material if at all possible. Once I figure out what material will work, and how many you guys want I will nail down cost and run them all off over the weekend. Keep you posted.
are the pic rails metal? they must be with that weight savings. with rail is 5.84lbs if I remember correct...at 4.7lbs is 1.14lbs off..wow
Don't miss... I won't...
The rails are polymer. I don't know where GSG got that 5.84lbs spec... Maybe gravity is different in Germany. One of the online reviews lists it at 4.82lbs unloaded with magazine.
What do you think about unscrewing the rear sight assembly, chopping off the front sight ears, and installing metal HK drum sights on a full length rail? And upgrading all poly rails to metal ones?
