Agreed, I've already built my own MS18A3, but that Mk12 is sexy...

Question about the MS18-A3 version the removable carry handle where did you source those?

Are they the $50 Chinese knockoff ncstar type ones that are the only ones you can find in Canada that wobble sit loose and won't hold a zero or are they Colt quality ones that are impossible to find in Canada ?

Question - if you still have a large number of these receivers just sitting there, could they be sold as "receiver build sets" like the Modern Sporter sets? They would obviously need to include any proprietary parts, particularly those related to the side charging system. I, for one, would love to build something on a Varmint receiver. I'm one of the guys who likes left-side charging.

I think that question has been asked and answered ad nauseam. Not trying to be disrespectful, I would love a couple Varmint receiver sets myself, but it ain't going to happen.

Part of the problem is the proprietary parts but the bigger issue is the method of trigger installation. The trigger pack drops in and the front pin installed which leaves the trigger pack floating, or pivoting, on that front pin.

Since it doesn't (can't) use the rear pin, the height of the rear of the trigger is positioned and aligned for proper safety engagement by a combination of adjusting the two set screws in the trigger pack and adjusting the proprietary hold down block.

A couple thou off one way on the adjustment and you would end up with a safety that won't rotate far enough to turn on. A couple thou off the other way and you end up with a safety that will rotate to the on position but doesn't engage the trigger thus rendering the safety useless. Safety says "on" but the gun still fires.

99.9% (or more) of the diy guys would f#@k it up and end up with a very unsafe rifle. It's understandable that ATRS simply won't allow this to happen.

The bcg would also need notched for the side charging handle, safety selector needs modified to clear the part of the upper that the rear trunion pin fits into, bolt release needs modified to clear the side charging handle system, and the barrel would need the locating pin relocated 180.

Perhaps as an alternative they may let you supply them with your choice of parts and they would make the modifications and assemble it for you? But you still run into problems where not all parts would be compatible even with the mods.

I always wanted a MV, but the price point has always been a little too high for me (based on a 6.5 grendal build in their build menu costing $4880). Even though I'm currently building 2 very gucci MS's.

With the MS it's easier to just buy multiple uppers. That side charging handle tho.

Our insurance carrier has made it abundantly plain that we can only sell complete and tested Hunters and Varmints due to the number of proprietary parts.
We can employ your supplied parts to a degree.
Best bet is to contact us at the shop to discuss what we can and can't do.

Cool, thanks for the info. Might actually do that down the road when your production catches up a bit and you have some time

Thanks for the info, I hadn't seen it asked, but I haven't lurked the Varmint forums. And I would be one of the 99.9% who would fvck it up, guaranteed.

Only US or Canada manufactured parts. (Stag/Bushmaster are currently two options we're looking at, but we're reaching out to Colt as well).
