Its a pistol scope I believe. Makes sense with the long eye relief. I would assume pre 1974 as there is no letters in the s/n.

I had one, it's a pistol scope with very long eye relief. I sent mine to Leupold and they gave it a free service

As others have commented, this would be a pistol scope. We've sent a note to Leupold for vintage and eye relief length.

It takes a while but I can usually figure it out. If I heard him speak in person no problem. Cause I got the same backwoods twang and slang

Possibly. The scout scopes from Leupold feature approx. 9" of eye relief; whereas the handgun scopes are set to 15-18" (depending on the model).
