As the M17 contract has matured, the U.S. army wanted black controls and different-colored slide. So it was much easier for Sig to pull out those pistols out there and replace/send them new ones with the new specifications rather than replace all pistols already deployed.
....So this pulled-out contract M17s is now legal to be sold to civvies.

...I want one!

Also I read last year that the commemorative M17s is not true to issued/contract M17s. Difference is on the slide disconnect which the issued M17s doesn't have.
I'm not sure if the slide disconnect has something to do with sear housing though.

They are now being sold off GB, ending a few hundred extra than the M17 commemoratives. Although I've seen regular price listed for 850USD by the same retailer as out-of-stock, he wisely lists it instead at GB.

This is true, the glock was the only one I've seen with flying colours on M.A.C.'s gauntlet tests. All other pistols had hiccup or the worse, stoppage and unsafe to complete the tests.

Even of the g19x is superior, if you want the real contract pistol, the surplus m17 is the real deal.
