While I'm all for reducing smuggling, it's naive to think that closing down one "loophole" will have any meaningful impact on the number of illegal guns brought across the border. Guns are extremely easy to smuggle. An unloaded gun cannot be sniffed out by dogs or detected with chemical sensing equipment. A few handguns hidden among a truckload of goods will never be intercepted at the border unless you have specific intel about a particular vehicle.

If you really eliminate crimes, gangs, violence and issues, you no longer need the big government and all the policing. Think about that.
Taking away illicit guns is never the real objective, its about feeding that status quo and having control over the populace with disarmament.

Indeed. The Federal agenda has been abundantly clear for many years. A cursory familiarity with the provisions of C68 support this contention. I am continually puzzled by what appears to be a general unwillingness to accept that logic and reason have nothing to do with the ongoing program of firearm regulations in Canada.

While a difficult thing to acknowledge, nevertheless it is true. Demonstrably.

This is something the CCFR and other rights groups should utilize..
No that would be too proactive for our ORGs...they should simply ask us for more money, fight each other and go on useless trips and such with their expense funds; It's worked so well thus far. IRG Perhaps you can talk to your friends at the NRA and ask them to open a branch in Canada and hopefully shut down our 3 or 4 ORGs (lost count) and get some proper firearm community representation.
The possession of arms is the distinction of a free man from a slave.

I hate it, but you might as well be right.
Hopefully this reality will change in the future.
