    It actually fired smokeless powder, black powder was used for training, and the smokeless powder ammunition kept in storage in case of a war.

    I picked up on that too but wasn’t sure about the year...I’m a bit rusty with my numeric characters...

    Tks! You are correct!

    江南制造局 = Jiang Nan Machine - Manufactureing Bureau
    快利 = Kuai Li (name of this rifle, means fast and sharp)
    乙未 = 1895 in Chinese Year name
    造 = Made

    China Qing failed in First Chino-Japanses war (War of Jiawu) in 1895, result China lost TAIWAN and China Nationalist start their revolution plan.

    The years repeat themselves every 60 year cycle. So you have to look up what all the years are for 乙未 and choose the one that makes the most sense. Clearly 1835 and 1955 wouldn’t make sense.
